Anti-Legalist Thoughts
Although there are many people that are for legalizing marijuana, there are those who don't. Mostly the government. The government has multiple "issues" with legalizing it. They can't use the argument "its unhealthy because why would they be passing bills on it for medical purposes." The government has only a few reasons on why not to legalize the plant. First off they will claim it is unhealthy, the only long term affect is that it retains memory in the brain. Other than that there's no medical issues. Studies have shown that an average cigarette smoker will smoke nine cigarettes a day. While the average marijuana user smokes a joint 1-3 times a week. Studies have shown that tobacco is worst for you health wise than marijuana. But yet the government allows cigarettes and other tobacco products to be used. Another reason the government doesn't want to legalize marijuana is because it will raise health care costs due to its "unhealthiness." Yet again another false statement, tobacco has more medical issues with it than marijuana so tobacco would raise the health care cost, more than marijuana would. The governments last reason they don't want to legalize marijuana is because it would be impossible to stop illegal sales of it even when legalized. Most of the concern is the taxation prices and preventing illegal sales. Medical marijuana sells for same or more than street value, why would people pay the taxed marijuana for more when they can get the tax free marijuana for less. The biggest reason they haven't legalized it yet is by far the last reason. If it weren't for that I believe that marijuana would have been legalized far before now.
The governments roll in legalizing marijuana has been a slow and painful process, though state laws allow the use of medical marijuana federal law still states it illegal. The government has been taking small baby steps in legalizing the use of marijuana but there are still many gray areas with owning and using marijuana there is some improvement. The last thing the government doesn't understand is that legalizing will only better the people. It will increase household income especially those who can not find a job right now. They will always have a back up job. Selling marijuana.
